Osman (our taxi / support driver) invited us to breakfast because his wife wanted to cook for us. It was quite a breakfast indeed. It was amazing to see them cook the bread and just plain delicious. Fatih, a good friend of Rustem (known as the Governor or Istanbul) met us yesterday and stayed with us today. The pictures today are courtesy of his fine camera work.
The winds were fierce and it was a bit cool, so we changed our plans to just head out to Kalkan and back for some steady miles. The winds turned out to be more fierce than we thought. There were gusts over 60 miles per hour. We headed off to Kalkan and realized within the first 2 minutes that this would not be an easy ride.
Not to sound like a broken record, but the winds were outrageous. Both Paul and Tom were blown off their bikes (literally). Tom was holding on to his handlebars as his bike was blowing over his head. If he had let it go, the Mediterranean would be its new home.
We never made it all the way to Kalkan. We arrived at the beach just after the Blue Cave (Mavi Magara) and after a brief meeting decided to head back. Brian had lost a bolt from his cleat so he had to be careful on the way back not to pull out of his pedal. This was definitely the hardest day of riding with the least amount of climbing.
