Off to Kas
After yesterday's killer pace, we were not sure what to expect of our legs today. But as life is in Turkey, one gets up and just feels like riding a bicycle. After a nice breakfast at the hotel, we packed our clothing in the taxi (our follow vehicle). Osman abi (our driver) has been very gracious and willing to follow us and keep us safe. It is very comforting to ride with an escort vehicle.
Although the pace was much easier than yesterday, we had quite a bit of climbing to conquer before riding to Kas. The first 25 km was relatively light will little climbs. However, once we when through Demre the climbing began. First we were confronted with a 15 km climb then a series of 1,2 and 3 km climbs for another 19 km. The day ended with a 11 km descent into Kas.
After arriving in Kas we got setup in the hotel and tooks showers before heading out to dinner. We enjoyed some local Kabaps and beer and then went for a walk. Rustem, traditionally met friends he had not seen in years as we stopped for Turkish coffee, cay and then some dessert. We took a quick trip to the market for some water (and sugar for coffee) and then back to the hotel.
Tomorrow will be a rest day with only an easy 2-hour ride to Kalkan planned. A few of us also need to hit the barber. Good night.
