2005 / February 3

Day 9

The plan was to get up early and set out for 3 mountain passes (each way) in route to the sunken city. It stormed all night and into the late morning. The sun made attempts but never won so we decided to ride anyway once the rain subsided. We took off and went about 50 meters before Rustem said we should turn back. The rain started to come down heavy again and then turned to powerful hail once we were safe in the hotel doorway. Good call Rustem!

We decided to dedicate the day to shopping and enjoying the local culture of Kas, Turkey. After purchasing some clothes to wear at Ali Yigit's wedding (the owner of Kas'im Beach Apart Hotel) on Saturday. It wasn't long before we found ourselves at a local cafe eating some "toast", cous cous and drinking freshly squeezed orange juice

When we realized we would not be getting a ride in today (the rain, thunder and lightening continued), we gave in to another shave and massage at the local barber.

We were again overtaken by the desire to eat dinner and went to The Han Restaurant for a magnificent chicken dinner, with traditional salad, Efes, hot peppers, bread, yogurt, Turkish coffee and Raki (sort of like Sambuca).

At the moment we are sitting around the fire enjoying a few drinks with dreams of a sunny day tomorrow. We have nothing to complain about since we have been able to ride every day since arriving. The weather has been more than favorable. I now must leave the comfort of the fire to walk to the internet cafe to upload this entry. Things can really get rough at times.
