MassArt: Delivering Value Through Design
February 13, 2023 - I had the privilege of meeting with students from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and speak with them on how to make an impact on companies, products, services, customers, and the world around them, with their work.
Adjunct Professor
Digital Commerce and Analytics
“While working together, Tom challenged me to grow quickly as a designer, but was always willing to take a step back and provide the coaching I needed to be successful. I would be honored to work under his leadership again.”
Kati Daczkowski
Product Designer, Wayfair
“I’ve yet to have a conversation with Tom in which he does not speak to the importance of developing the abilities of those he works with and the responsibility he feels towards their success.”

Encouraging Critical Thinking and Persuasive Communication
When I designed the Digital Commerce and Analytics curriculum for Lasell University, my goal was to strike a balance between a quantitive and qualitative approach to understanding customer behavior and measuring results. The course material is presented using a collaborative approach to learning, including: group projects, onsite research, and data synthesis, Students are taught to ask the right questions, solve the right problems, measure the final outcome, and persuasively present the findings.
Mentorship, Vulnerability, and Growth
I have met with my current mentor since 2003. As we sit, exchanging ideas over coffee, it never crosses our minds just how long we have been friends. Regardless of the time that has passed, our conversations are still as lively and inspiring as ever.
I value mentorship in both my personal life and my professional journey. I also value people who yearn to be mentored. It is inspiring to see someone’s passion, vulnerability, and desire to learn and grow. This quest for direction and guidance speaks highly to the quality of a person’s character.
