Day 8

As many of you know, Rustem has suffered some severe back pain recently, so he decided to visit his doctor in Kas. This would also help provide a doctor's note to submit to the airline to delay his departure from Istanbul one day. The travel agency made a mistake when booking Rustem's return flight scheduling him to depart a day early and miss his best friend's wedding. The airline said they would reschedule the flight and waive the fee with a note from his doctor. So.

Gary decided to tag alone to have his cough looked at. While they were gone, I cleaned 3 muddy bikes and shoes (from yesterday's excursion to Patara) and then relaxed on the hotel deck for some sun. Rustem and Gary returned around 1 PM after 6 cups of cay and visiting a few of Rustem's friends.

Since Rustem was in need of rest, Gary and I ventured out for a short (flat) 45 minute ride to and from a local beach. We cruised through town and stopped at a hoppin' outdoor cay cafe. Gary was on cay overload. It was the first time I'd seen him refuse seconds. We tooled around town and rode out to the lighthouse at the end of the inlet.

We grabbed a small snack and rest back at the hotel before going out to dinner. Rustem had told the restaurant owner that we would be back again tonight and to prepare a beef dish. Well, that was quite a dish, accompanied by another killer salad.

Tomorrow we are undecided between a ride to Demre to see Noel Baba (Santa Claus) or to the Sunken City over 3 mountain passes. Either ride will prove to be epic with 5-6 hours in the saddle with close to 5000 feet of climbing. I'm sure we will be tired and hungry tomorrow night.
