Day 2
YES!!! Our prayers were answered. We woke up to a beautiful sunny day. There was no time to waste. We ate a light breakfast (there were plenty of reserves from the last 2 days of eating) and hit the road.
We decided to do a 60 KM coastal ride into Kalkan after a 10 KM loop around the peninsular. There was a ferocious headwind all the way to Kalkan which caused us to pedal on the descents. It must have been close to 40 MPH.
Once in Kalkan, we stopped at a local cafe for a some cay (tea). The sun was out and we were riding. It was awesome. After a few cups of cay, we stuffed our jersey's with newspapers in preparation for the return ride home (bring on that tailwind).
It kept getting warmer and warmer. I was forced to loose the leg warmers and wish we could have ditched the jackets as well.
Back in Kos, Rustem and I stopped for a shave and a haircut. You've never been to a barber unless you have visited Turkey. To these guys it is an art form. My shave was so close that my cheeks were transparent. They used this flaming ball on a stick thing to burn the hairs in and around my ears (HELLO).
We picked up some food at the local store and Rustem cooked us an incredible eggplant dinner. After relaxing for a while we are now headed to the Internet Cafe to upload these pages and have some more cay. We will continue to pray for good weather.
